Abstract:

It is a fact that the fundemental problem of man is "his existence". But his realization of that is utmost important. On the other hand, there might be various interpretations on the vital question of twenty first century. None of these interpretations could be based on the assumption that as representatives of the last generation of the world history, we do not have any problems any more. There are not only issues solely related with this century but also we have the same issues with earliar ages of humanity's. It is inevitable that we need to ask the right questions if we are to find influential and realistic solutions. Based on the assumption that the vital question of this century is "who am I?" or "what is the meaning of being a man?", Danish philosopher Soren Aabye Kierkegaard (1813-55) is, in ourview, the philospher within the Western philosphy, who asks this question and answers it most diligently. This study aims to further explore his commentaries. Like Socrates, in Ancient Greek, who transformed philosophy into an action exploring man, a nineteenth century philospher, Kierkegaard did not investigate the truth in philosophical theories in concepts defining abstractness but with an existentialist approach, he emphasized that truth can only be found in concrete of man's life and man's subjectivity, summarized it with the expression "truth is subjectivity". This statement refers directly to man and man's inner capacities. Therefore Kierkegaard performs deep analysis on man and his subjectivity, and how this leads one's self to truth, hereby strives to offer means to fulfill one's existence. This study examines how Kierkegaard founded his principle and aims to further investigate his views on truth. Keywords: Existence, subjective truth, subjectivity, essential knowing, God.
