Abstract:

The lughaz, which is the poem riddle of our old literature, has a crucial place not only in Turkish literature but also in Arabic and Persian literature. As can be understood from the fact that lughaz was written by many poets in our literature, it was appreciated and preferred by such poets. This is remarkable in terms of showing the importance of lughaz.

In the journal which we have been working through and is registered in Cambridge University Library number Or. 1913, there are 248 lughazes between 1b – 59a leaves. Our study is based on reading these lughazes in the transcription alphabet and examining them in terms of form and content.

In the first part of our thesis which consists of three chapters, the lughaz has been defined, its emergence as a genre and its course in our literature have been mentioned, finally, the riddle and enigma have been briefly mentioned and their similarities and differences with lughazes have been referred.

In the second part, form and content analysis have been carried out and the names of poets who wrote the lughazes have been included. In the third part, the journal we have been working through has been introduced, orthography characteristics of lughazes and the method in the text setup have been mentioned. In addition, our text which is read in the transcription alphabet has been included. Thus, our study has come to an end.
