Abstract:

The topic of the thesis entitled "Princes in the Hittite state organization in the light of written documents" is a difficult topic as it has a wide scope and has been little studied so far. For this reason, all positions in which the princes served, the officials who were considered princes were discussed chronologically. In this way, during the study the positions of the princes within the state were evaluated both according to their position and considering their chronological and dynastic position. During the study, the various positions in the Hittite State Organization were considered as a whole and the positions in which the princes served were examined as a whole and both the Hittite State Organization and the position of the princes within the state were discussed in detail. In the second part of the study, this point was highlighted in detail, as the Hittites in Anatolia were intensively documented during the Assyrian trading colonies, and the written documents found in both Kültepe and Boğazköy provide important information for a better understanding of the founding phase of the Hittite state. Then, it was emphasized who the founder of the Hittite State was and the princes during the period of the Old Hittite state were examined in detail. In the third part of the study, the duties of the princes as the Hittite State turned into an empire were examined in detail in the context of the changing state structure. In the conclusion, the duties of the princes in the Hittite state, the actions expected from the princes, positive and negative consequences caused by the princes were evaluated.
