Abstract:

In this study, we argue that, being a topic historically handled as a relation between religion-philosophy, reason-revelation; the relation between religion-science, with the arguments of modern science, can be revisited with a reconciling approach, parallel to the developments in natural sciences in modern era especially after Renaissance and the Enlightenment. In this context, we defined the concepts whose scope has changed over time related to religion and science. In the first section, we studied development and interaction of science, in the context of its relation to religion, in the east (Islam) and the west. In the second section, we carried out a methodology research regarding re-evaluation of Scriptures by linking them to science. In the methodology research, we discussed the contemporary theories of interpretation science and their possible contributions to scientific interpretation of the Scriptures. Regarding the concepts of reading, comprehension and interpretation, we tried to develop an especially the Holy Qur?an-centered interpretation methodology. We concluded this section with an evaluation of the criticisms by the scientific commentary. In the third section, where we argued that science and religion should be re-evaluated in a rational-theological way and should be reconstructed, we made a criticism of science and religion. We tried to reflect on the phenomena brought about by the changing conventional scientific paradigm. We analyzed postmodern commentaries on science. We questioned the possibility of a religious perspective on rationalism and empiricism which are the main arguments of scientific methodology. We tried to illustrate that scientific researches and sacred scriptures, without ideological reading, will provide each other with epistemic support. By showing the downfall in such concepts as determinism, necessity and chance put forward historically by the classical scientific approach, we questioned the possibility of such new scientific perspectives in their stead as indeterminism, irreducibility and intelligent design.
