Abstract:

This research, has been made as a definitive study for the determination of the constructs effecting the life quality of the adolescents (13-18 years old) with cancer who have completed their treatment.The sample of the study was formed by 90 adolescents (13-18 years old) with cancer who have completed their treatment in two university and two state hospitals in Izmir between the dates of February-September 2009. Adolescent questionarre (13-18 years old) and initiatory information survey were used as data collection tools. For the evaluation of the data; numerical and proportional distribution, independent double group t-test, Kruskal Wallis test and Mann Whitney U tests were used.In the study, %43.3 of the adolescents are female, and %56.7 of them are male. Mean age of the adolescents is 15.98±1.60. First diagnostic age of the adolescents is 11.18±3.80. The difference in the scores of the adolescent which they got from the life quality scale according to their gender was not found statistically significant (p>0.05). The score average of the children who were diagnosed with cancer in their childhood which they got from the life quality scale (physical, emotional, school, psychosocial, scale) were found to be higher than the ones who were diagnosed in their adolescence (p<0.05). The total scale scores of the adolescent according to their diagnosis were found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). The difference between the total average psychosocial health and scale scores of the adolescent with their treatments was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). The difference between the educational status of the mothers of the adolescents which they got from the life quality scale (physical, emotional, social, school, psychosocial, scale) were not found to be statistically significant (p>0.05). The difference between the educational status of their fathers and their emotional functionality, psychosocial health and scale scores average was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). The difference between the job status of the mothers of the adolescents which their the social functionality score average were found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). The difference between the job status of the fathers of the adolescents which they got from the life quality scale (physical, emotional, social, school, psychosocial, scale) were not found to be statistically significant (p>0.05). The difference between the economical status of the parents of the adolescents and their social functionality score average was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05).In conclusion, it was determined that the life quality of the adolescents is effected in the post-treatment period. It is strongly advised that necessary nursing interventions should be planned and applied in order to increase the life quality of the adolescents who have completed their treatment.
