Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to collect current information and general situation about the Rapana venosa (Valenciennes, 1846) it?s distribution and habitat characteristics in the Şile (Black Sea). Samples were obtained from June to November from divers. Sampling area was from Karaburun (Anatolia) until the rocky bottom structure of Kefken. This study was carried out monthly in the depths between 5 to 30 m in 4 stations (Karaburun (Anatolia), Şile, Ağva and Kefken) which were estimated according to information obtained from the local fisherman.During this study the sampling was made 20 times and 3153 individuals were collected in total and the biometric datas were obtained. According to classification of the sampling depths; 40% of all R.venosa were taken from 20-25 m, 33% from 15-20 m, 14% from 10-15 m and 13% from 25 m. In this study the distribution depths of the R. venosa were as follows: maximum depth was 27 m and minimum depth was 13 m. Collected material showed that approximately 51% of all harvested samples were taken in July and August.Length of R. venosa varied between 29,46 ? 122,09 mm. The average length was determined as 72,37 ± 0,278 mm; the width as 49,10 ± 0,254 mm and the weight as 63,2 ± 0,872 g.Key words: Gastropoda, Rapana venosa, Black Sea, Exotic, Distribution
