Surveys of the Medieval Armenian Churches (except Ani) in and around Kars have been carried out since 2010 with the permission of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, and the General Staff. Shortly, the purpose of the survey is to identify and document the Armenian monasteries and churches built in the Middle Ages in and around Kars (except Ani), which are included in our cultural heritage belonging to different civilizations, to prepare the building catalogs and to make architectural evaluations of a period.
In 2010, which was the first season of the research, Armenian monasteries and churches in the central districts and villages of Kars, especially the military border, were examined. This report is contained survey, plan and photograps of Surp Arak'elots Church (Aziz Havariler Kilisesi / Kümbet Mosque), Beşik Mosque, Kümbet Church in Kars center district, Kızıl Church (Karmirvank/Dprevank) in Yağkesen village, the church in Oğuzlu village, Bagnayr Monastery (Kozluca Monastery) in Kozluca village, Shepherd Church near Ani, the church in Ölçülü Village (Greek Church), the church near Mezraa village and Horomos Monastery, Shepherd Church / Karmirvank and Taylar Church located in a military forbidden zone.
