• Açıklama:
I sincerely thank the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) for giving me the opportunity to participate in the ESHG Mentorship Program. This valuable program, which supports young professionals in genetics through international collaboration, plays a highly significant role in our career development.

As part of the program, I spent one week at the Department of Clinical Genetics, Linköping University Hospital, under the mentorship of Genetic Counsellor Rebecka Pestoff. Since the first day, I was warmly welcomed by Rebecka and her team. Communication was very smooth, and I had the opportunity to actively participate in all activities throughout the week.

During this mentorship, I took part in case discussions, lectures, and genetic counseling sessions with oncology patients. I had the opportunity to observe the approaches to oncology patients, including risk assessment, patient education, initiation of genetic tests, interpretation of test results, follow-up, and referral processes. I also observed the detailed pedigree drawing for oncology cases and discussed the structure and future of the Genetic Counseling Master’s Program in Linköping with my mentor and her students.

This program significantly enhanced my knowledge and experience in genetic counseling practices and inspired me regarding the accreditation and development of our Genetic Counseling Master’s Program in Türkiye. I had the opportunity to share the knowledge and observations I gained with my colleagues, and I believe this experience will contribute to strengthening genetic counseling practices in my country.

Moreover, the program allowed me to establish new professional connections during the ESHG Congress, which I aim to maintain and develop further in the future.

I am deeply grateful to the ESHG for their support, and to Rebecka Pestoff and her team for their generosity, guidance, and expertise. This inspiring and motivating experience will greatly contribute to advancing genetic counseling in my country.
