Biography
Assoc. Prof. Önder Kocatürk was born in Istanbul in 1976. He entered the Department of History at the Boğaziçi University in 1994, which was his first choice. He graduated from this department by winning first place and an honor degree (3.49.GPA). He achieved his M.A. with a high degree (3.69 GPA) at the same department and wrote the M.A. Thesis titled “Poverty and The Poor in Victorian Britain (1837-1901). He started his Ph.D. program at the Istanbul University, the Institute of Atatürk’s Principles and the History of Reforms in 2003. One year after, he became an assistant by winning the exam. He wrote his Ph. D. Thesis in Turkish called "Türk-İngiliz İlişkileri'nin Kopuş Sürecinde Son Aşama (1911-1914) [The Last Phase in The Collapse of Turco-British Relations (1911-1914)] and achieved his Ph. D. degree (3.41 GPA) in 2010. He became an Assistant Professor in October 2013. On 22 October 2014, he received the title of Associate Professor of Modern History. Önder Kocatürk is engaged in academic studies on late Ottoman history and the history of the Turkish Republic. He has 6 books and 10 articles. He is fluent in English and also has a very good command of Ottoman Turkish.
