Assoc. Prof. Dr. Önder Kocatürk was born in Istanbul in 1976. He was admitted to the Department of History at Boğaziçi University in 1994 as his first choice and graduated in 1998 with first-rank honors (GPA: 3.49). He completed his M.A. degree in the same department with high distinction (GPA: 3.69).
His English master’s thesis, titled “Poverty and the Poor in Victorian Britain (1837–1901)”, focused on the social history of nineteenth-century Britain.
In 2003, he began his Ph.D. studies at the Institute of Atatürk’s Principles and Revolution History, Istanbul University, and a year later was appointed as a Research Assistant in the same institute. He earned his Ph.D. degree in 2010 with a dissertation entitled “The Last Phase in the Collapse of Turco-British Relations (1911–1914)” (GPA: 3.41).
He was promoted to Assistant Professor in October 2013 and received the title of Associate Professor in Modern History on 22 October 2014.
Dr. Kocatürk’s research focuses on the late Ottoman period and the early history of the Republic of Türkiye. He has published eight books and ten scholarly articles to date and has advanced proficiency in English and Ottoman Turkish.
