Project Abstract

Based on the foresight that the traces of some spatial identity elements, which are observed to disappear with the passing of time in Ayvalık, can be caught in Lesbos, the study is based on the search for geographical and cultural continuity and a curiosity about how to transfer the owned heritage. The first of the series is about Ayvalık and Lesbos countryside. The main purpose of our study is to compare the villages in the countryside of Ayvalık, one of the closest settlements to Greece, where the Greeks lived for a while and which still preserve the typology and culture of the said period to a certain extent, and the village settlements of Lesbos on the opposite side; The aim is to reveal the potentials within the framework of the rural development goal by analyzing how the similarities and relationships manifest in the countryside.
