The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations (hereinafter referred to as “FAO”) and
the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture, (hereinafter
referred to as the “Service Provider”) (together hereinafter referred to as the
“Parties”) have agreed that the Service Provider will provide certain services
defined in detail in the attached
Annex (the “Services”) which forms an integral part of this Letter of Agreement
(hereinafter the “Agreement”) in support of the implementation of a pilot case
study on the ecosystem approach to fisheries in Gökçeada, Turkey. The aim of this project is to develop a fisheries
management plan to Gökçeada fisheries (Turkey) to facilitate the transition
towards an ecosystem approach to fisheries. In the first phase of the project,
information will be compiled about Gökçeada fisheries, describing the current
status and trends in fishing capacity, catch composition, catch amount, fishing
grounds, catch value, socio-economic status of fishers, management and
organization-related characteristics. In the second stage, the project will
discuss and develop the baseline report with the contribution of the
stakeholders as well as to prepare a draft fisheries management plan with a
series of stakeholder consultation meetings.
