X-ray Line Diagnostics and Characterization of the Advective Hot Flow in Nonmagnetic Nova-like BZ Cam

Proje Özeti

We propose a pointed observation of the nonmagnetic nova-like (NL) Cataclysmic Variable (CV) BZ Cam for 150 ks with the Chandra ACIS-S HETGS. NLs are high state CVs (at high accretion rates) with winds/outflows. BZ Cam is found to show hot optically thin plasma emission in the X-rays, originating from an advective hot flow structure (ADAF-like) as proposed for other NLs. This observation will provide the first high resolution X-ray data for BZ Cam in the 0.4-10.0 keV band. We will determine the ionization conditions in the X-ray region by emission line diagnosis and detecting warm absorber effects (absorption features) along with outflow signatures investigating/characterizing the nature of the adjective hot flows in BZ Cam and other NLs.
