Project Abstract

Today, the concept of artificial intelligence, which stands out due to the developments in new communication technologies, has started to be used in many fields, from education to art, and has started to be accepted as an essential application and research field that is gaining popularity rapidly. The development of the abilities of artificial intelligence systems in emotional behaviors, decision-making, and creative idea generation beyond motor productions has also led to discussions on the idea of becoming a natural part of the production by covering the fields of visual art and design. In this context, it is necessary to define the cooperation between artificial intelligence and human, determine the boundaries, and examine the role of artificial intelligence in animation production in the near future.

In light of the above information, the primary purpose of the research is to evaluate the integration of artificial intelligence into animation production and to reveal the role of artificial intelligence technologies in the future of the animation industry within the framework of the views of animation professionals and faculty members working in the animation departments of universities. In this context, it planned to use in-depth interview and document analysis methods from qualitative research methods. With the interviews to be held, it is aimed to determine the opinions of 34 industry professionals determined by criterion sampling within the scope of the purposeful sampling method and 17 academicians working in the animation and game design departments of universities. In addition to the in-depth interview method, it is planned to use the document analysis method within the scope of examining the curricula of animation departments in universities in Turkey.

The conditions to have at least one year of industry experience and training in animation will be decisive in determining the professionals and academics who constitute the sample in the interviews. Interviews are planned to be held in Istanbul, Eskişehir, Kütahya, and Ankara, where animation companies and animation departments in universities are the most concentrated. There are limited studies in the literature on artificial intelligence's role in the animation industry's future. This study, which will be carried out in this direction, will contribute to the literature from both a sectoral and academic perspective.
