Abstract

Sociology of literature is concerned with the relationship between literature and society and tries to explain the social life in this regard. As a discipline it has initially been shaped in the nineteenth century Europe. Yet in Turkey, it has spread only after the second half of the 20th century. Thus, there has developed a significant body of literature about the sociology of literature. Three different groups have contributed to this literature: the sociologists, social scientists, and the critics and the men of literature. As a result there has appeared a considerable amount of literature. The aim of this article is to overview the formation of this literature.
