The aim of the study was to evaluate the distribution of indications on the patients who applied Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Conservative Dentistry according to age, sex, educational status and the number of individuals in the family and also to examine the distribution of these indications on the teeth according to the same criteria. The study was conducted in 200 patients. Information as age, sex, educational status and the number of individuals in the family were recorded on forms and then patients examinations were done. After the examination type of indication and indicated teeth were recorded. 78 male and 122 female patients were participated in this study. Patients between 12-24 ages had much more treatment indications than the other age groups. The elementary school level patients were much more attended to the present study. There is inverse proportion between indicated teeth and educational status. According to the intraoral examination the most requiring operative treatment indication was found as follows: occlusal caries, aproximal caries and filling replacement. On the other hand the most frequently indicated occlusal caries was observed in the teeth as follows 36, 46, 26 and 16. It was found that the rate of requiring operative treatment indication are higher in women than in men. In addition patients between 12-24 years old are the most treatment requiring patient group. There is inverse proportion between indicated teeth and educational status. According to the intraoral examination the most requiring operative treatment indication was found as follows: occlusal caries, aproximal caries and filling replacement. However, the occlusal caries was observed most frequently in molars.
