Abstract

In order to examine the sounds in Verga’s works, it is deemed necessary to overlook the ‘voice’ of the characters and the purely linguistic-phonological analysis, deviating into another research area, namely Soundscapes studies. The analysis of the soundscape, in its founding elements, as conceived by Schafer – tonics, signals and sound marks – identifies categories used to study Verga’s novels, in particular ‘Jeli il pastore’, following an unusual approach in the field of Verga’s studies.
