Özet

Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological diseases, that occurs as a result of excessive discharges due to the abnormality in the electrical functioning of a group of cells in the brain, causing temporary changes in the consciousness, movements and behaviors of the person. The diagnosis of idiopathic epilepsy, which is a controversial area, isgured out when the cause of the disease is not obvious or it cannot befound.

This research is carried out in two stages, in the rst part of theresearch, projective tests of Rorschach and Thematic Apperception Tests ( TAT) were applied to 15 patients, interpreted psychoanalytically according to French School. The results of the analysis of responsesindicate an incomplete mourning process and depression, insuf ciencyof representing an autonomous identity and destructiveness in objectrelations. The theme of sacri ce and victimisation is found to be signi cant and interpreted in terms of representing destructiveness inpsychic functioning.

The second aim of this study was to examine the participants’ experiences of having this disease and to determine how they make sense of such an experience as well as what kind of feelings, values and processes are involved in interpreting their experiences by adopting an interpretetive phenomenological approach. In line with this aim, semi structured interviews are carried out and the analysis is in progress. After interviews and analysis concerning the second part of the studyare completed, the ndings will be discussed in terms of how data oftwo parts are associated.
