ICHTHYOLOGICAL EXPLORATION OF FRESHWATERS, cilt.25, sa.4, ss.381-383, 2015 (SCI-Expanded)
Phoxinus strandjae was assessed as Endangered species according to the IUCN criteria due to its very limited distribution range and expected population decline. Although it was believed to be restricted to the Veleka and Rezve drainages in Bulgaria and Turkey, it was found in ten additional, independent stream catchments in Thrace and Anatolia. The species was also found to be highly abundant and threat levels are expected to be only moderate in these basins. It might therefore be listed with a lower threat status in the IUCN Red List.
