2025 Results of the Western Afyonkarahisar Paleolithic Survey are Presented in Erzincan

The data obtained from the 2025 fieldwork of the Western Afyonkarahisar Paleolithic Survey were presented to the academic world at the 46th International Symposium on Excavations, Surveys and Archaeology, held in Erzincan between June 8–12, 2026, in cooperation with the T.R. Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University. The scientific event was attended by the head of the survey, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkay Dinçer, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan Şahin and Dr. Göknur Karahan from the research team.

In this deep-rooted organization, which has been held uninterruptedly since 1979 and reflects the latest milestone of archaeological activities in Turkey, 384 scientists from 11 different countries took part and a total of 425 papers were presented this year. At this international platform, where the 2025 research conducted across Turkey was collectively evaluated for the first time, the findings regarding the paleolithic age surveys in Western Afyonkarahisar were submitted to the attention of experts.

The Western Afyonkarahisar Paleolithic Survey was carried out in four seasons between the years 2022 and 2025.

The Western Afyonkarahisar Paleolithic Survey, conducted by the scientific team under the leadership of Istanbul University, was carried out with the institutional support and cooperation of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, the Afyonkarahisar Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, the Afyonkarahisar Museum Directorate, and the relevant local administrative authorities.
