This course aims to explore texts by women who have voiced their concerns about women’s social conditions, contributed to political changes and shifted the discourse on gender equality. We will read women’s writing as well as writings for and about women closely to consider how they reflect their historical contexts. We will also examine women authors’ contributions to literary movements, feminist studies and queer theory. We will study concepts such as gender, agency, autonomy, maternity and suffering.
