This course examines texts that engage with creative visions of utopia and dystopia. Influencing social reforms and responding to postwar movements, these authors critiqued traditions, politics and communities through imagining different possibilities for the future. Ranging from the sixteenth to twenty-first century, our reading list will include Thomas More, Edward Bellamy, Joanna Russ, Samuel Delaney, Ursula Le Guin, and topics will include socialism, Afro-futurism, feminism among others.
