Özet:

In ancient Turkish culture “ceiling centre-piece”, which beliefs on cosmos created, was often used in religious and civilian architecture during Ottoman period. The creation of a centre-piece of a ceiling in Ottoman architecture and the symbolical meaning attached to it are based on the tent (çadır) concept which has an important place in Turkish culture and life style. Forwhy tent has a meaning beyond the sheltering place of a family. In accordance with the ancient Turkish beliefs the ceiling centre-piece is at the center of the holy place which is the projection of cosmos on the earth.

Beliefs and religions have an important role in the creation and formation of architectural components and attaching a symbolic dimension to them. Heavens, earth – seas, ancestors religion which has an important role for Turks and which is one of the primary religions and Shamanism belief system acted as an important factor for ceiling centre-piece to acquire a symbolic meaning. After Turks accepted Islam the importance attached to ceiling centrepiece did not lose its sybolic meaning and on the contrary this meaning continued its value upto now by gradually gaining strength. The ceiling centre-piece with its changing ornamentations and techniques considering different periods in Ottoman architectural decoration kept its notable situation during Ottoman Art.
