The cytotoxic, antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal activity of Rana ridibunda skin secretion was investigated. The results showed that Rana skin secretion 2 (RSS2) exhibited weaker cytotoxic activity than the Rana skin secretion 1 (RSS1). Both the RSS1 and RSS2 were not found to inhibit human parainfluenza virus type 2 (HPIV-2) replication on Vero cells. RSS1 and RSS2 demonstrated antibacterial activity (except Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027 and Pseudomonas maltophilia KUEN 1297). RSS1 fraction from Rana ridibunda was found to be the active fraction with agar-disc diffusion method at non-cytotoxic concentration. In contrary, RSS2 demonstrated weak antibacterial activity and cytotoxic activity.
