Abstract
Endodontic treatment using MTA for internal root resorption: A case report
Aim: The purpose of this case report was to present the endodontic treatment of a traumatized tooth with internal root resorption.
Summary: A 15-year-old boy was referred to Istanbul University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Endodontics with a history of traumatic injury three-years previously. The patient did not seek for any treatment since then. In the intraoral examinationof the patient, a sinus tract was seen related to the left maxillary central incisor. The related tooth had tenderness to percussion and mobility. The radiographic examination showed a wide periapical lesion surrounding the root apex and an inflammatory internal root resorption. The root canal was biomehanically prepared with hand files and copious irrigation of 2.5% sodium hypochlorite solution. Calcium hydroxide (Sultan Healthcare Inc,Germany) was placed twice as an intracanal dressing for 3 weeks each. At the second visit, the root canal was obturated with lateral condensation technique and the root canal filling was removed with heated instrument to the level of resorption lacuna. The lacuna and the coronal part of the root canal was then filled with mineral trioxide aggregate (White-MTA Angelus, Londrina, PR, Brazil). The access cavity was sealed with glass ionomer cement. At the third visit, the temporary restoration was removed and the coronal access was restored with composite resin.
According to short term results of this case, MTA was found to be a successful sealer in challenging internal root resorption but long term results should be followed.
