Turkish undergoes some changes in the light of
borrowing and the potential effect of contact with Persian. The one is the
changing the word order from sov
in svo. This is because of
borrowing Persian grammatical morpheme “ki” as a complementizer which is firmly
embedded in Turkish complex sentences. In doing so Turkish obtains two relative
and complement construction: the one which is head internal and made by various
participles and gerunds is native construction with sov word order. The other which is head external and made by
Persian complementizer is loan construction with svo word order. The existence of two alternative
constructions not only allows some useful stylistic variations but also
enriches the language. A further interesting topic to be investigated would be
what additional factors might accelerate or retard the process of expansion.
