Abstract

INTRODUCTION:Enamel hypoplasia is defined as a problem that occur in enamel development and this condition causesaesthetic problems, sensitivity complaints and caries formation. In this case, aesthetic restoration of hypoplasia was performedusing direct composite resins, based on a minimally invasive treatment approach.

CASE DESCRIPTION:A 21-year-old female patient applied to clinic with aesthetic concerns about hypoplastic defects in teeth. After the clinical and radiographic examination of the patient, various treatment options were explained to the patient and it wasdecided to restore them with direct composite resin. Following rubber dam isolation, the enamel surfaces were etched with37% Scotchbond Universal Acid (3M Espe) and Scotchbond Universal Adhesive system (3M Espe) was applied according tothe manufacturer's instructions. The predetermined high refractive index (HRI) composite material (Micerium UD1, UD2, UD3,UE2) was applied using the layering technique and each layer was polymerized for 20 seconds. Finishing and polishingprocedures were completed using polishing discs (3M ESPE) and polishing rubbers (Clearfil Twist Dia, Kuraray, Japan). Thecomposite restoration was scored by an independent expert according to the FDI World Dental Federation(FDI) criteria with theaspects of esthetic, functional and biological properties at the 1-year follow-up.

DISCUSSION:In this case, direct composite resin material application, which was preferred to eliminate the aesthetic problemscaused by hypoplastic defects, met the patient's expectations and aesthetically satisfactory results were obtained.

CONCLUSION/CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:Direct composite restorations can be preferred in the treatment of mild andmoderate hypoplastic defects due to their easy applicability, aesthetically successful results and economic advantages.
