Özet
Objective: To compare the results of the most used radiologic methods of bone age determination with the chronological age (CA), and to evaluate the situation in our country and other countries. Methods: The study was conducted in 149 subjects (100 M / 49 F) aged between 12 and 19 years. Postero-anterior radiographies of left hand-wrists of the subjects were obtained, and bone ages were determined by using the Greulich-Pyle (GP)
and the Tanner-Whitehouse (TW) methods. Bone ages were compared with CA’s, and findings were evaluated with the results in other countries. Results were assessed by Pearson
Correlation Test and Paired Sample t Test. Results: The GP age was bigger than CA in males (1.08 months; p>0.05) and females (2.04 months; p>0.05), and there were very strong correlations (r>0.75) between them. The TW ages were bigger than CA in males (1.08 months; p>0.05) and females (7.56 months; p<0.05), and there were strong correlations (0.50<r<0.75) between them. After the literature screening, it was found that GP and TW methods could produce different (close or far) results to CA in different populations and ethnic groups.
