Abstract
As it is known Brazil and Turkey has been called among emerging economies by the 2000s and currently they have been identified among the fragile five by Morgan Stanley(2013) due to their dependency on skittish foreign investments to finance their growth ambitions. Besides both of the countries have been called among the leading emerging donors that aim to play active global and regional roles and as a consequences of these policies basis of south-south cooperation initiatives has been widely discussed.
Given that Brazil and Turkey has different economic scale, primarily this paper would aim to focus on political economy of growth patterns in both countries during 2000s.
This paper would also suggest that although this period has been labelled differently; such as Lulismo, neodevelopmentalism in Brazil and the JDP period in Turkey, macroeconomic policies and development strategies have got common features that needed to be investigated in detail. Furthermore although achieving high average growth rates and given importance to social policies, rising social protests in 2013 challenged the success of the applied policies in both countries.
Briefly the paper would analyze and compare macroeconomic policies and discuss the dimensions of south-south cooperation initiatives in both countries.
