Abstract

The paper primarily aims to focus on inequality measurement on the basis of Gini coefficient following 2001 in case of Turkey. Based on TurkStat, OECD and World Bank Development Indicators data related to Turkey, the Palma ratio (2011,2014), the share of top 10 percent income to the bottom 40 percent income (D10/D1-D4) approach to inequality would be investigated both on country and regional level(SR level 1, TurkStat). While analyzing the basis of inequalities the paper suggest that since the Palma ratio focuses on the top-, bottom- and middle-income groups, it will permit a deeper analysis of the inequalities and neoliberal policies of the last decade. Furthermore by comparing the Palma ratio on regional level (SR level 1,Turkstat), question of convergence of regional disparities would be included to the analysis. Taken into consideration the evidences based on the Palma ratio, social and redistributive policies would be also analyzed.
Under these circumstances the paper would also suggest that following 2001 period, this particular phase of neoliberal policies in Turkey warrants further analysis. In brief analysis of neoliberal era following 2001 period and its effects both to the distribution and the redistributive and social policies would be investigated.
