This study subjects to investigate of the geological evolutions of two lagoons, Küçükçekmece and Büyükçekmece lagoons, locating at the northern edge of the Marmara Sea. Geological evolutions of the lagoons have not been yet studied using data from lagoons’ themselves. Understanding the evolutions of these lagoons also provides very valuable information about the geological evolution of the northern terrestrial area, which Istanbul City locates, and it is also important for solving the problems for urbanization arose by geological risks in the area. In this study, evolutionary stages of the Küçükçekmece and Büyükçekmece lagoons investigated using high-resolution seismic data from inside of the lagoons and from the mouths of the lagoons on the northern shelf of the Marmara Sea. Morphological investigations have also been performed to compare the seismic data with the morphology of the surrounding areas of the lagoons.
