Abstract

ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Chest computedtomography (CT) was obtained from manypatients with or without the Coronavirusdisease 2019 (COVID-19) due to thepandemic. This study aimed to defineincidental findings on CTs of the patients.MATERİALS AND METHODS: From March2020 to October 2020, three-thousand tenadults (age ≥ 18 years) with no radiologicalevidence of pneumonia and no knownmalignancy or lung disease were included inour study. CT images were evaluated forfindings, including incidental nodules andsubtypes due to Fleischner Societyguidelines, bronchial distortion, bronchiectasis, sequela calcific lymph node, sequela changes, emphysema, andpneumoconiosis suspicious findings likeasbestos plaques and malignancysuspicious findings due to FleischnerSociety guidelines.RESULTS: The mean age was 46.49±16.92, ranging from 18 to 96. Fifty-fivepercent of the patients were men. Incidentalnodule was detected in 12% of the patients.Bronchial distortion/bronchiectasis (p =0.012), emphyssema (p < 0.001), incidentalpneumoconiosis suspicious findings (p =Journal of Radiation Oncology and Palliation. ISSN:2602-4373400.004), incidental malignancy suspiciousfindings (p = 0.026) were more common inmen. The most of smokers were men (p <0.001). Emphysema was more common insmokers (p = 0.008).CONCLUSIONS: The incidental findings on3010 chest CTs obtained on the populationwere summarized. This study is the one withthe largest number of participants in Turkey. Our results can help describe incidentalfindings in our population.KEYWORDS: Chest CT; incidental findings;lung; pulmonary, pulmonary nodule.
