Lactococcus garviae is a rare opportunistic pathogen with a low virulance. In humans, only a few cases infected with this agent were reported in the previous two decades. Most of these cases had endocarditis. In this paper, a case of L. garviae endocarditis is presented. A 54-year-old male was referred to Emergency Department of Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty in November 2009. The patient was hospitalized due to complaints of fever, chills and fatigue that had been present for a week. Gram positive cocci which were identified as L. garviae with Vitek 2 automatized system grew in all of the obtained blood cultures. Phenotypic identification of the bacteria was confirmed with 16 S rRNA gene sequence analysis. Clinical symptoms and CRP values of the patient improved after six weeks of vancomycin and ciprofloxacin treatment.
