Özet

Abstract. In this study it is aimed to present a brief analysis of the novels “Cham” (The

Boor, 1888) by Eliza Orzeszkowa and “Hiçbiri” (None of them, 1923) by Suat Derviş, who are

the one of the realistic representatives of Polish and Turkish literature. The fact that they are

representatives of societies that blends the cultural characteristics of the Eastern and Western

worlds, adds significant richness to such a comparison. In addition, it is interesting that both

writers lived and were active during the periods, when the countries they belonged to were

struggling for national independence. Although the works examined have been described as

largely realistic, they also contain romantic elements, as is often encountered in the literary

world. Both of the writers examined social realism and psychological realism movements,

sometimes together and sometimes separately, in their works. Social inequality, poverty,

women's rights, and the importance of the child figure in the social structure were the primary

topics addressed by both authors.
