Özet

The colon can house a variety of diseases and conditions, like pancreatitis, Crohn's disease, or, most noticeably, colon cancer, which is the third most common type of cancer worldwide that leads to death, following only lung and breast cancers. Aside from commonly occurring colonic conditions, the colon can also be the ideal area to tackle the treatment of conditions that are otherwise unrelated, thanks to it being a site for systemic absorption. These facts coupled with the limitations posed by traditional drug delivery systems push researchers to develop novel drug delivery systems that can overcome such challenges. In this regard, self nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDSs) have emerged as a desirable option in the recent years, especially for drugs belonging to biopharmaceutical classification system (BCS) class II and IV. In that regard, this chapter aims to provide an oversight on the use of SNEDDS in colon targeting and associated conditions.
