The aim of this study was to improve the computer program named dr. Lutfu, as an aid in dermatopathological diagnosis. Dermatopathological findings of 65 cases of superficial inflammatory skin diseases were recorded in the knowledge base of the program by using logical words. The method of criteria tables was used in order to obtain possible diagnoses from findings selected by a user. The program was evolved to run in the DOS-graphic mode. The program was tested in a series of 77 cases and the possible diagnoses were consistent with the clinicopathological diagnoses in 81% of the cases. The correlation, however, was low in some of the diagnostic groups. It was stressed that the knowledge base of dr. Lutfu should be reviewed by experienced dermatopathologists and tested in further series.
