10-Bromo-obtusallene 1, a new haloether possessing a lauroxacyclododecane ring, has been isolated from the red alga Laurencia obtusa. Its structure has been established by spectroscopical methods. Likewise, its conformation in solution, as well as that of the related metabolite obtusallene 2, has been studied by molecular mechanics calculations.
