Özet

The Trump 2.0 era has the potential to significantly impact Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), particularly in terms of regional integration experiences. The US has played a significant role in shaping trade relations with Mexico and Central American countries, as well as developing trade relations with China, which have differentiated LAC countries' traditional ties with the US and paved the way for the region's integration into South-South cooperation. The US's economic and political preferences towards the region are influenced by the forms of participation in global value chains (GVCs). The Trump administration's new policies could transform the position of LAC countries within the global economy, focusing on regionalization dynamics, forms of integration into GVCs, and relationships with other trading partners. An empirical assessment will be conducted to determine whether Trump's new policies will lead to a structural reorganization within the Inter-American system and create differences in global economic relations beyond trade. The analysis will be conducted from a political economy perspective, focusing on the orientations of regional integration experiences, forms and determinants of integration into GVCs, the scope of trade in goods and services, and relationships with alternative trading partners. The implications of these structural transformations will be revealed, and how neo-mercantilist orientations could deepen the hegemony crisis and how strategic hedging practices could alter the future of the Inter-American system will be discussed.
