Timetabling is one of the most crucial points for systems. Moreover, exam timetabling problems as a special type of timetabling problems have been extensively studied by researchers for a long time. Exam timetabling problems were initially solved manually with traditional methods. However, especially because of the size and complexity of the dataset, it is really hard to solve exam timetabling problems manually. Later, with the development of information technologies and heuristic techniques, various effective and remarkable methods have been proposed and brought to the literature. The studies in the literature show that the effectiveness of new techniques using information technologies is much better than the manual traditional techniques. The aim of this study is to review the literature on exam timetabling problems and listed the details of them for the comparisons. Thus, future researches on both exam timetabling problems and other timetabling problems can be progressed by starting intensively with a comprehensive and compared literature review.
