Turkish military expansion in the face of conflicts of interest
By the first months of 2020, Turkey sent its troops to Libya and enlarged its military presence in Syria. These were not exceptional cases. Turkey enlarged its military presence from Somalia to Azerbaijan and from Balkans to Afganistan and more frequently using military tools in her foreign policy. As Ankara’s militarization of foreign policy deepening, Turkey’s relations both with neighboring countries and western allies are deteriorating. Tensions with the western allies and bargaining with them goes hand in hand. Ongoing military expansion of Turkey is at the heart of these debates.
