Abstract
Some of the main objectives of the department of computer and instructional technology education are to develop students' skills such as creative thinking and effective problem solving, as well as the mission of graduates of this department to be software developers and web designers, requires that students in this department have certain mathematical knowledge. In this research, it is aimed to examine the aspects of the students who are studying in computer and instructional technology education about mathematics. The interview technique, which is one of the qualitative research techniques, has been used in the research. The research sample consisted of a total of 40 students studying in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades of Department of Computer and Instructional Technology Education in an education faculty of a state university in Istanbul. 10 students from each grade level were taken to the interviews. An "Interview Form" developed by the researchers was used in the research. As a result of the interviews, it was seen that the students who were educated in computer and instructional technology education were generally challenged in mathematics lessons, they regarded mathematics as a difficult lesson to understand, they accepted to have inadequate mathematics knowledge and did not like mathematics. On the other hand, they think that these negative feelings towards mathematics and the lack of knowledge will not adversely affect their success in their profession. In the light of the results of the research, some suggestions that could change the negative views of the students of computer and instructional technology education department about mathematics were made.
