This study examines the impact of Qur’anic recitation (qirā͗āt) variations on semantic and interpretive diversity within the framework of al-Futūḥāt al-Makkīyya by Muḥyī al-Dīn Ibn al-͑Arabī, one of the foremost representatives of Sufi thought. The science of qirā͗āt, which addresses differences in pronunciation and meaning, has become a fundamental discipline in Islamic scholarship, enriching both phonetic and semantic dimensions. This study outlines Ibn al-͑Arabī’s engagement with qirā͗āt and systematically analyzes his treatment of recitation and tajwīd in al-Futūḥāt, emphasising how he integrates variant readings into his esoteric interpretations. Sometimes using qirā͗āt to transmit exoteric knowledge, Ibn al-͑Arabī also employs them as a source for constructing inner and symbolic meanings. Through content analysis, the study identifies explicit and implicit references to qirā͗āt in al-Futūḥāt and compares them with the classical recitational literature. Ultimately, this research highlights the contribution of qirā͗āt to the Sufi exegetical tradition and reveals new dimensions of the relationship between recitation and mystical interpretation.
