Abstract

Characteristics of sea-level variations in the eastern coasts of the Aegean Sea have been investigated using time series of hourly sea-level data from Bozcaada, Izmir and Bodrum. Short, tidal and long periods of oscillations have been identified. Short-period oscillations with periodicity of 3.5-4.2 h are attributed to seiche-like motions at Izmir Bay. The tidal oscillations are dominated by semi-diurnal constituents with supplementary contributions from the diurnal constituents. The subtidal water-level data from Izmir have been analysed in terms of local barometric pressure and observed wind. The seasonal cycle was computed for the monthly averages of mean sea-level data.
