Özet
The tokenisation of money has entered a pivotal phase, moving rapidly from experimental pilots to regulated deployments across multiple jurisdictions. This introductory chapter contextualises the emergence of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), stablecoins, and deposit tokens within a broader narrative of monetary evolution, tracing the trajectory from the early “wild west” era of crypto-assets through landmark regulatory milestones such as the EU’s MiCA framework and the US GENIUS Act. Against a backdrop marked by both transformative promise and high-profile failures, including the collapse of Terra/Luna and the FTX exchange, the editors articulate the rationale for a comprehensive, fact-based compendium on tokenised money. The chapter outlines the book’s purpose: to serve as a practical and conceptual guide for governments, regulators, financial institutions, fintech firms, businesses, and academia navigating the complex digital money landscape.
