B-08 Families' Approaches to Invasive Diagnosis and Results in Pregnancies with Fetal Ultrasonography Abnormalities Melda Erdoğdu1 , Tuğba Kalaycı1 , Tuğba Saraç Sivrikoz2 , Ayça Dilruba Aslanger1 , Birsen Karaman3 1 Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Genetic, Istanbul, Türkiye 2 Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Perinatology, Istanbul, Türkiye 3 Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Genetic, Istanbul, Türkiye; Istanbul University, Child Health Institute, Pediatric Basic Science, Medical Genetic Division, İstanbul, Türkiye The aim of prenatal diagnosis is to inform families about the risk of congenital anomalies or genetic diseases/syndromes that may occur in the fetus and to offer family options for pregnancy management. In this study, families' approaches to invasive diagnosis and its results in pregnancies with anomalies detected on fetal ultrasonography were investigated by statistically evaluating the responses provided to the prepared questionnaire forms. Of the 308 families who were offered invasive genetic diagnostic tests due to anomaly detection on fetal ultrasonography, 217 (70.5%) accepted to undergo these tests, whereas 91 (29.5%) did not accept to undergo testing. When the families’ decisions regarding these invasive tests were compared with socio-demographic data, equal and high economic status and small gestational age were found to be statistically significant. Of the 130 families who were offered the option of termination due to the results of the invasive procedures and/or negative perinatal prognosis, 82.3% (n=107) accepted, while 17.7% (n=23) decided to continue their pregnancy. This study found that economic factors and gestational age were related to families’ decision to undergo an invasive procedure. In those who were offered the option of termination, ‘Information received from doctors/midwives/nurses’ was found to be effective in making this decision, while in those who decided to give birth, the most effective factor was the idea that ‘aborting the baby is a sin (belief)’.
