Toplumun ıslahı için önce devletin ıslah edilmesini savunan Mustafa Sabri, hilafetin kaldırılmasına da şiddetle karşı çıkmıştır. O, bu konuda siyaset ve basın yoluyla mücadele etmiştir. Separation of religion from the state and abolishing the Caliphate were hotly debated in Turkey
during the transition into the Republic. Mustafa Sabri Efendi, the eyhülislam of the time, was in the center of this debate. Mustafa Sabri Efendi argued that the state had to reform itself first and this was necessary for the reforms in the society. He completely objected to the idea of abolishing Caliphate, for he did not accept a government without Caliphate. He fought against this abolishment both in politics and in the press. This article focuses on Mustafa Sabri’s views in this respect.
