Özet
A promising approach for reconstructing past land cover from pollen records is to describe the pollen–vegetation relationship using mathematical models, estimate species-specific parameters for these models, then apply them in inverse form to obtain quantitative estimates of land cover from pollen records. Relative Pollen Productivity (RPP) estimates are the key taxon specific parameter required for widely used models. This study presents RPP estimates for 10 major Mediterranean plant taxa from the forest-alpine steppe vegetation belt of southern Türkiye. The study area is centred on Eğri Lake, a moraine-dammed lake located at an elevation of 2070 m in south-western Türkiye. Modern pollen assemblages and vegetation data were obtained from 21 sampling sites across a range of habitats and RPP estimates were derived using the Extended R-Value (ERV) model, applying the taxon-specific Prentice-Sutton distance-weighting method in combination with ERV submodel 2. For the moss samples, the Relevant Source Area of Pollen (RSAP) was determined to be approximately 250 m. Based on the RPP(Quercus cerris-type) estimates, taxa can be divided into three productivity groups: high pollen producers (> 2) which include Abies , Cedrus and Pinus ; moderate pollen producers (1–0.17) which include Asteraceae, Caryophyllaceae, Fabaceae and Juniperus ; and low pollen producers (< 0.17) which include Lamiaceae and Poaceae. The RPP estimates obtained for Cedrus , Lamiaceae and Caryophyllaceae are the first values reported from Europe. Overall, this study provides a region-specific RPP dataset for Anatolia and establishes a solid foundation for future palaeovegetation reconstructions using model-based approaches.
