This chapter provides an overview of Türkiye’s administrative organization for the conservation of cultural assets and outlines the main issues related to this subject. In this respect, the chapter first explains the organizational scheme for the conservation of cultural heritage. Then, it focuses on the qualifications of the councils—which exercise an important function in the organizational scheme—and their autonomy and expertise problems. In the next phase, the relationship between the central administration and local governments within the context of conserving cultural assets is discussed, and whether the coordination between the administrations is properly designed or not. Finally, the need for “disaster risk management focused on the conservation of cultural assets” is emphasized.
