Özet

Recently, it was decided to implement Korean language education as one of the optional foreign language courses in secondary schools in Turkiye. Through a survey, I investigated the awareness and perspectives of students, prospective teachers, and school administrators in Turkiye regarding Korean language education for secondary schools. As a result, students expressed a desire for Korean language education not only due to their positive image of Korea but also for self-development purposes. Prospective teachers expressed difficulties due to the lack of current Korean language education programs and hoped for diversification in teacher training programs. School administrators gave positive evaluations of Korean language education but pointed out that the global spread of Korean language lags behind English. In terms of curriculum, students expressed a desire for learning various topics such as language, history, and culture, while prospective teachers focused mainly on language learning, emphasizing speaking-centered curriculum that allows for slow but solid foundational development. School administrators mainly mentioned aligning with the Ministry of Education's standard curriculum for foreign language education but showed openness towards attempting Korean-style education culture and methods. When asked about establishing Korean language schools, the majority of students expressed interest in enrolling, and most prospective teachers and school administrators believed that establishing such schools is possible. Therefore, it is suggested that the establishment of Korean language schools in secondary education in Turkiye could lead to gradual expansion through attempts at Korean-style education culture and methods, ultimately enhancing cultural exchange between the two countries.
