Abstract

Doubled haploidy is the fastest way of achieving completely homozy-gous plants in one generation. It shortens the time required for the development of mutant varieties allowing rapid response against threats to sustainable food produc-tion caused by changing climate and stresses due to emerging pests like Striga.Inthis chapter, we describe step-by-step protocols to obtain doubled haploid rice with fixed novel mutant variants by anther culture from gamma ray irradiated M1 populations to accelerate mutation breeding for resistance to Striga in rice.
