SINGAPORE ECONOMIC REVIEW, 2025 (SSCI)
Individuals prefer to make income sacrifices to achieve a higher social position in society. There can be many psychological and social factors behind this phenomenon. This paper analyzes if and how schizophrenia and bipolar disorder patients concern about positionality differences in comparison to healthy controls. We believe this attempt helps to achieve a better understanding of the motives affecting positional concerns. Using a survey-experimental design and an ordered probit model, we observed that schizophrenia and bipolar patients behave less positional compared to healthy controls, especially if they are not married, or not highly educated.
